Auburn Road back open after morning gas leak

Gas leak closes Auburn Road

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – NIPSCO was on the scene of a gas leak on Auburn Road on Wednesday morning. A construction crew hit the line a little after 8:00 a.m., prompting officials to shut the road down. As of 11 a.m., the leak had been stopped but service had not been restored.

Northbound lanes of Auburn Road at Wallen Road were closed for several hours. The northbound ramp from I-469 to Auburn Road was also closed.

Seventy people were evacuated from The Ear, Nose and Throat Associates offices on Dupont Circle Court as a precaution and expects to keep afternoon appointments that start at 1:00 pm.

Twelve people from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates at 10008 Dupont Circle Court were also evacuated. People said they could smell a gas odor inside the building. Wednesday’s appointments at this business will be moved to 1320 Medical Park, pending the reopening of the evacuated building.
