STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE)  A truck driver from Michigan suffered head injuries after he swerved his semi to avoid hitting some deer that were crossing the road he was driving on.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, dispatchers got a call at around 1024 am Tuesday regarding a semi that had turned over in the 7500 block of Fremont Road.  When police and fire crews arrived on the scene, the driver was still in his rig which was on its side.  Billy P. Jeffries Jr., 47, of Coldwater, Michigan told emergency personnel that he went off the road trying to avoid the deer and when he swerved back onto the roadway the truck overturned.

Jeffries was taken to Cameron Hospital to be treated.  Police don’t believe alcohol played a factor in the crash. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
