Two passengers injured in roll over crash near Chicago

HAMMOND, Ind. (WANE)  Police said two passengers were seriously injured when the SUV they were in swerved into a semi trailer while trying to avoid another car.

Investigators said around 7:15 a.m. Monday, David J. Tomlinson, 34, of Plymouth, Michigan, was driving east on I-80 in Hammond, Indiana near Chicago. Tomilnson was driving a Honda CRV when a car to his right lane started to come over. Tomilinson swerved to the left to avoid the car. He lost control of his CRV and crashed into a semitrailer. The CRV rolled after hitting the semitrailer and landed in a lane to the left.

Police said the driver of the semitrailer, Asencion Medina, 58, was not injured and Tomilinson was treated at the scene for a hand injury. However, Tomilinson’s two passengers were taken to a local hospital. The front seat passenger, Brett Barath, 28 suffered a head injury. The back seat passenger suffered a serious arm injury.
