MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A Muncie man faces reckless homicide and other charges stemming from a 2012 car crash that killed an 89-year-old woman.
Tra Hunter Privett was being held on a $20,000 bond following his Friday arrest on charges of reckless homicide and causing death when driving with a controlled substance in the blood.
Authorities say the 20-year-old Privett had an anti-anxiety medication in his system in August 2012 when he crossed a road’s center line and his vehicle collided head-on with a car driven by Betty J. Carey. She died at an Indianapolis hospital five days later.
Deputy Delaware County prosecutor Eric Hoffman tells The Star Press (http://tspne.ws/1rJ1heF ) the charges weren’t filed until almost two years after Carey’s death in part because of delays in getting test results and hospital records.
