FORT WAYNE, IN. (WANE) – It took South Adams three months to put it all together – but when it did – the results were brilliant. The Starfires struggled to a 2-7 record during the regular season, but reeled off three straight postseason wins to capture the program’s first sectional championship in 17 years. Nine starters offensive starters are back to try and do it again in 2014.
Senior quarterback Derek Wanner and running backs Skylar Schoch and Drew Lefever all return this fall after the trio combined for nearly 4,000 yards of total offense. Second year head coach Rick Burkhalter says his teams spread it our approach will be paramount to their success again this year.
“We didn’t have a thousand yard rusher, but we did have a 1,700 yard backfield,” Burkhalter says. “It was pretty much six-hundred yards across the board for each and every one of them. I like it that was and I think they do too.”
South Adams opens its season on the road when the Starfires visit Winchest on August 22nd.
