INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis police say a homeowner has shot and killed an intruder during an attempted burglary in Indianapolis.

WTHR-TV and The Indianapolis Star report the shooting occurred around 1 p.m. Sunday on the city’s near north side.

Police say three or four people were trying to enter the home when the homeowner shot one of them. Police say the other break-in suspects then fled from the scene.

Police say the person who was shot was dead when officers arrived on the scene. They say a second person also might have been shot.

The names of the person killed and the homeowner were not immediately released.
