INDIANAPOLIS (WISH/AP) – The Indianapolis Colts confirmed on Saturday that running back Vick Ballard is done for the season with a torn Achilles tendon.

Ballard was injured on a pass play during Indy’s afternoon practice on Friday. After initially getting up and limping, Ballard was taken to the locker room on a golf cart. The Colts haven’t even practiced in full pads yet and he wasn’t hit on the play.

Colts officials said Ballard will have surgery.

Last year, Ballard tore the ACL in his right knee during a September practice and missed the final 15 games.

The injury leaves Ahmad Bradshaw and Trent Richardson competing for the starting job.

However, the team announced Saturday it will also hold Richardson out of practice Saturday as a precaution with a soft tissue injury.
