Six adults escape house fire

Fire crews found flames inside a wall of an apartment home early Wednesday morning.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne firefighters battled an early morning fire at a fourplex home east of downtown.

Fire crews were called around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday to 928 Rivermet Avenue after a 911 call about smoke in the home.

The first arriving firefighters found fire inside an interior wall in a second floor room and part of the attic, according to a department report.

Six adults safely evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Crews extinguished the flames in about 15 minutes and an insulation extractor was used to remove insulation from the attic.

Two pets were rescued by firefighters.

No injuries were reported.

The home sustained minor fire, water, and smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
