COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police in Columbus say a 15-year-old boy has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old girl.

A police report says Shevona Whitehead was shot in the upper body at about 10 p.m. Monday at a residence on the south side of the city. She was pronounced dead later at a hospital.

Two males fled on foot afterward. Police developed the 15-year-old boy as a suspect, and he was arrested on Tuesday night on a juvenile warrant for murder. A report says the boy admitted his involvement in the shooting.

Police haven’t publicly discussed a motive.

It was the city’s 56th homicide of 2014.
