One dead in Ind. Toll Road crash

FREMONT, Ind. (WANE) – One person is dead after a crash involving a pickup truck and a semitrailer on the Indiana Toll Road late Sunday night.

According to Indiana State Police, emergency personnel were called around 10:40 p.m. Sunday to the eastbound lanes near mile marker 147. Troopers said one person was killed.

The semitrailer was driven by Vefuilla Aquino, 66, from Chicago. Police believe he was driving below the speed limit when his vehicle was rear-ended by a  Ford F-350 driven by Ramon D. Griffin, 38, from Cleveland, Ohio. Griffin’s passenger, Toyia Hill-Griffin, 37, suffered fatal injuries.

Griffin was transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne. However his condition is unknown. Aquino and his passenger were unharmed in the incident.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
