Rugby tradition returns for 45th year

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  A 45-year-old tradition brought rugby to McMillien Park Saturday and Sunday as part of the Three Rivers Festival. The 45th annual Fort Wayne Rugby Tournament brought teams from Indiana and Ohio together to compete Saturday and Sunday.

Sam DiFilippo, president of Fort Wayne Rugby Club said the serious playing took place Saturday with 12 teams from Indiana and Ohio competing against one another all day.Rugby 2

Sunday, students from area high schools gathered to play the game. The 30-40 students were mixed together and placed on random teams. DiFlilippo said the students played in a faster paced version of the game called Seven Style, the same version that will be used in the 2016 Olympics.
