McCordic Leads After First Round of PBA50 Dick Weber Super Senior Classic

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Paul McCordic of Sugar Land, Texas, averaged 223 Friday to lead after the first round of qualifying in the inaugural PBA50 Dick Weber Super Senior Classic presented by Storm at Pro Bowl West.

The 60-year-old McCordic bowled a 1,339 six-game pinfall total with games of 245, 213, 211, 237, 188 and 245 to top the field of 128 players in the first event conducted for PBA50 Tour players ages 60 and over.

Trying for his first PBA50 Tour title, McCordic’s best finish in a PBA50 Tour event is eighth in the 2013 United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters. This season he has best finishes of 13th and 14th.

“I’m making the match play rounds a lot but it seems I like get in a rut and get eliminated in the round of 16,” McCordic said. “For this tournament we’ll be using the modified round-robin format which I’m looking forward to if I continue to bowl well in the second (qualifying) round.”

Rounding out the top five are PBA Hall of Famer Johnny Petraglia, Jackson, N.J., 1,284; Patrick King, Yankton, S.D., 1,273; Mike Henry, Brunswick, Ohio, 1,271, and Kerry Painter, Henderson, Nev., 1,266.

The entire field will return for another six-game qualifying round Saturday morning at 11 a.m. ET which will determine the top 32 players who will advance to the first match-play round Saturday starting at 5 p.m. The second match-play round gets underway Sunday at 8:30 a.m. which will determine the top five players for the stepladder finals scheduled for noon.

The Super Senior Classic will be followed by the Pro Bowl West Fort Wayne Classic presented by Ebonite open to all PBA50 Tour players ages 50 and over which starts on Monday, July 21 with the first round of qualifying beginning at 10 a.m.
