FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man is facing battery charges after police said he beat and threatened his girlfriend of six months, who was six months pregnant at the time, while two other children were in a nearby bedroom.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the victim and 21-year-old Joshua Sells got into an argument in the early morning hours of July 10, during which Sells became upset. The victim said Sells punched her face with a closed fist. Sells then grabbed her by her hair and pulled her to the ground. Sells had a gun in a holster in his waistband that he never took out, but he made repeated threats to use it and kill his girlfriend.

The victim said that during this, she tried calling Sells’ mother several times but got no answer. She left messages on the mother’s voicemail.

The victim was then pulled into the bedroom and pushed onto the bed where she said Sells held put his hands on her throat and held her down. She said she was still able to breathe and scream for help at this point, but police did see the redness around her neck when they responded.

It was at this point that Sells’ mother arrived and started to argue with her son. The victim called 911 and the call taker could hear Sells tell her: “If I get arrested I will beat your a** and kill you.”

Two children in a nearby room were woken up by the fight and were awake and crying when police arrived.

Sells was arrested and taken to the Allen County Jail. He faces multiple battery charges, both felonies.
