Thousands take advantage of free river tours

River excursion

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A new event at the Three Rivers Festival turned out to be a big hit as more than 3,000 people endured long lines to take a pontoon ride on the St. Mary’s River.

Organizers say some of the 3,704 people waited nearly two hours to take advantage of the River Excursions which were offered Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Ten boats ferried about 10 people each for the 30 minute rides. Each trip had a guide on board who offered some history about the rivers and bridges in Fort Wayne. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
