Smith Wins Fifth City Championship

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Michelle Smith won her first Fort Wayne Women’s City Tournament 20 years at the age of 19. On Monday she won “one for the thumb” as Smith earned her fifth city championship with a one-stroke win over defending champ Karley Dobis at Chestnut Hills.
Smith took the lead on 15 when her par putt kept her at +3 and Dobis’ bogey bumped her to +4. Smith then proceeded to stick her approach within two feet on the par three 16th, with a tap-in birdie increasing her lead to two strokes at +2. Dobis would birdie 17 to move to +3, but Smith finished solidly with a short par putt on the par-five 18th to win by one stroke at +2.
Dobis, a Homestead grad and current Ball State golfer, finished at +3. IPFW golfer/DeKalb grad Allison Curtis and Sarah Dusman both finished at +4 to tie for third. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
