FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne police are investigating after a man was found in the middle of the road suffering from a severe head injury.

Around 5:45 a.m. Monday, emergency personnel received two 911 calls from a man who was jogging in the 3900 block of Shannon Drive and a woman who was walking her dog.

Both told dispatchers a man was lying in the middle of the road and bleeding.

Police said the man was transported to the hospital in critical condition with some type of injury to the back of his head. Hospital officials told police the man had suffered some type of blunt force injury and also had signs of bruising.

Officers placed crime scene tape around an entire block of the road looking for any clues as to what might have happened. Crime scene technicians arrived to process any possible evidence.

The man was found in the street near Neighbor Drive and a pool of blood was found closer to Goodfellow Drive several hundred feet away. A few more drops of blood were found about thirty feet further west.

Officers on scene said they are investigating all possibilities, including the likelihood of the man being struck by a vehicle, falling and injuring himself, or someone else striking him in the head.
