Hotel Fitness Championship Gears Up For Second Year

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – After a successful debut at Sycamore Hills Golf Club last fall the 2014 version of the Hotel Fitness Championship is just six weeks away.
A stop on the tour, the event brought in almost 27,000 spectators last fall. Tournament director Duke Butler IV says the tournament is shooting to draw closer to 35,000-40,000 this time around. He cites positive experiences for last year’s attendees and area familiarity with the event as primary reasons numbers should increase.
Sycamore Hills general manager Eric Schneider says the course will look a bit different this season. Sycamore has undergone fairly major renovation – specifically with regard to bunkers – for its 25th anniversary season. Schneider notes that the course changes should make it more difficult for professional golfers to card low scores that were typical in last year’s event.
2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman won last year’s Hotel Fitness Championship title at 20 under par. Immelman is among many of the big name players who could hit the links in Fort Wayne this time around. That list includes Nick Watney, Mike Weir, and John Daly.
The tournament tees off with first round play on Thursday, August 28. For more information on the Hotel Fitness Championship click here.
