Motorcyclist dies after Thursday morning crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Just before 3 a.m. on Thursday, Justin C. Seyfert, 23, of Fort Wayne was traveling south at a high rate of speed on Coldwater Road near the intersection with Wallen Road when he missed a curve and was thrown off his motorcycle according to Fort Wayne Police Department spokesperson Officer Chris Felton.

The motorcycle traveled for about 150 feet after leaving the road and crashed into an area with trees, weeds and bushes. Seyfert landed about 50 feet from where the motorcycle stopped. Medics took Seyfert to an area hospital in critical condition where he later died. Officer Felton said no other vehicles were hit and Seyfert was not wearing a helmet.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office ruled Thursday afternoon that Seyfert died from blunt force trauma caused by the crash and the death was ruled an accident. It’s not known yet if alcohol drugs were factors in the crash and the investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the F.A.C.T. Team and the Allen County Coroner’s Office is continuing.

According to the coroner’s office, Seyfert’s death is the 10th traffic fatality in Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2014.
