WATERLOO, Ind. (WANE) – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department has released the identities of man and woman killed when the motorcycle they were on collided with a semi around 1:40 Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators said motorcyclist Michael Wilson, 47, failed to negotiate a curve on southbound County Road 24 East. He and a passenger, Michelle Reser Smith, 34, left the road, continued through a grass field and then went up an embankment to U.S. 6. The motorcycle went airborne and crashed into a semi. The driver of that semi, Bradley Grove of East Liberty, Ohio, tried to swerve but was unable to avoid hitting the motorcycle.

Wilson and Reser Smith were pronounced dead at the scene. Grove wasn’t hurt.

The intersection was closed while police and emergency officials investigated and cleaned up the scene. The road reopened at about 4:45 p.m. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
