GARY, Ind. (AP) — Memorial services for a slain Gary police officer will be held at the city’s downtown convention center.

Kuiper Funeral Home says visitation for Patrolman Jeffrey Westerfield will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Genesis Convention Center. His funeral service is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Monday at the same place.

Authorities say Westerfield was found fatally shot inside his patrol car early Sunday — the day he turned 47 years old.

Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson said Tuesday investigators are “fairly confident” that a man arrested hours after the shooting is the person who shot Westerfield, but he hasn’t yet been charged in his death.

Westerfield is survived by his fiancee and four daughters. Officials say his ex-wife is a Gary police officer.
