Hammons And Haas Give Boilermakers Beef

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WANE) – When the seven-foot, 251 pound A.J. Hammons is the second biggest player on the roster, you know a team has some size in the middle.
That will be the case with the Purdue Boilermakers this season, as incoming freshman Isaac Haas of Alabama is listed at 7-foot-2, 285 pounds.
The duo have been battling each other in summer workouts in West Lafayette, and coach Matt Painter says he is open to playing both centers at the same time during the 2014-15 season.
Hammons is back for his junior season after flirting with the NBA. He averaged 10.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game last season. He also tallied 3.1 blocks a night, helping him land a spot on the Big Ten All Defensive Team.
Haas averaged 18.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks as a senior at Hokes Bluff High School. He was ranked as the nation’s no. 64 prospect by recruiting website Rivals.com.
