Downtown roundabout gets final green light

Ewing/Fairfield Project

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)- The Fort Wayne City Council gave the official okay Tuesday evening to a $4 million improvement project for the downtown area.

Under the plan, a roundabout will be built just south of the Wells Street Bridge connecting Wells Street, Superior Street, Ewing Street and Fairfield Avenue.

The project will also change Fairfield and Ewing from one-way to two-way streets.

Construction should start within the next few weeks and wrap up in November.

That wasn’t the only major expenditure approved at the meeting at Citizens Square Tuesday. The council also signed off on a massive $257 million project that will ultimately reduce the amount of sewage overflowing into the city’s rivers.
