Suspicious object detonated at Lane Middle School

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)- A report of a suspicious object outside Lane Middle School Monday night ended up being a false alarm, but had people in the area on edge nonetheless.

The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious object outside the school between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. Monday.

Several concerned parents and neighbors called the NewsChannel 15 newsroom asking just what was going on at the school, and police dispatchers confirmed that a suspicious object had been found.

The object, which turned out to be a briefcase, was detonated as a precaution a little after 8:00 p.m.

Police said the briefcase did not contain explosives or anything dangerous.

FWPD’s bomb squad robot was used in the response and the area was blocked off while police investigated the situation.
