FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne police are investigating a shooting in the 5100 block of Winter Street early Monday morning.
Police received a 911 call shortly before 2:30 a.m. after a man was apparently shot in the street and knocked on the door at a nearby house asking for help.
City police spokesperson Office Chris Felton said the man was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
The name of the victim has not been released.
Crime scene tape stretched for half a block as officers used flashlights searching for evidence of a shooting. Officers looked up and down the street and in several yards trying to find evidence.
Felton said officers initially received information about a possible vehicle involved in the shooting, but couldn’t confirm if the information was credible to the investigation. Felton said no suspect information was available.
He said no arrests have been made.
Sources told NewsChannel 15’s Rod Hissong that officers found a vehicle in the 1100 block of Swinney Avenue which might have matched an earlier description given to police. Information on its possible involvement in the shooting, if any, was not available Monday morning. It’s unclear if anyone was inside the vehicle when officers located at a home next to the old GE building. The vehicle was towed from the area and taken for processing.
The incident remains under investigation.
