FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  – A driver declared dead after an accident at Lake Avenue and Coliseum Boulevard Monday morning died of natural causes.

The crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. and shut down traffic for a time.

According to Fort Wayne Police Department Public Information Officer Michael Joyner, a Jeep was driving at a high rate of speed down Lake Avenue. The Jeep left the road, just missing a passenger that had been on a CitiLink bus, and crashed into two street lights.

The Jeep continued through the intersection of Lake and Coliseum, and left the road again, hitting a utility pole and landing upside down. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Allen County Coroner identified the driver as 47-year-old Eugene Perry of Fort Wayne. The coroner found that Perry died of natural causes, not as a result of the accident. No on else was in the car.

The back of the bus was hit in the accident. No one in or around the CitiLink bus was injured. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
