The storm passed over Chicago and moved across the northern portion of the state packing winds near 70 miles per hour. The winds were so powerful they caused a semi to flip over on westbound U.S. 30 near Webster Road. The driver was not injured.

The driver told NewsChannel 15 he was actually on the phone with his wife when the strong winds flipped his truck. The Fort Wayne man said he was about 15 minutes from his end point and had he not taken a 30 minute break earlier in the night he probably would have made it home before the storms hit the area.

Dispatchers in several counties reported numerous trees and power lines down across the NewsChannel 15 viewing area.

NewsChannel 15 Meteorologist Greg Shoup said emergency managers in Steuben County reported dozens of uprooted trees and several homes with significant damage.

Huntington County Emergency Management Director Butch Williams said the Phillips 66 gas station at S.R. 116 and U.S. 224 has significant damage to the canopy.

Williams said a vehicle was also damaged when parts of the canopy collapsed. No injuries were reported at the gas station. It’s unclear if the station was open at the time the storms rolled through the area.

Several traffic lights around Fort Wayne are also not functioning. Motorists should treat them as a four-way stop until the power is restored.

A long stretch of road is dark along Coldwater and Lime Roads from the Glenbrook area to State Boulevard. A section of Crescent Avenue and Anthony Boulevard near Coliseum Boulevard is also without power.
