WOLCOTTVILLE, Ind. (WANE) – The Fort Wayne area Muscular Dystrophy Association chapter is making the tradition of summer camp a reality for nearly 50 kids in the region.
The week-long event is at Camp Potawotami. Campers get to attend for free, thanks to donations from the public. Organizers said the camp is always a highlight of the year.
“MDA Summer Camp is so important to our youngsters living with a muscle disease. If you can imagine what it’s like the whole year, they sit on the sidelines and this is the one opportunity where they get to be first and foremost . They get to be front in line. They get to do every single activity. It’s just adapted for them, Ashley Zumstein, the executive director of the area MDA chapter, said.
Camp runs now through Friday morning. There are 77 camps across the country.
