FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Family, friends and classmates held a garage sale Saturday in memory of a local teen killed by a drunk driver.
Halley Nellum, 17, was killed back in March.
Bishop Dwenger High School’s Students Against Drunk Driving chapter decided to hold the fundraiser in honor of Nellum.
Proceeds from the garage sale will go towards the Haley Nellum Scholarship, benefiting a student at Bishop Dwenger High School, where Nellum attended.
“It’s just been amazing to see how much Haley was loved by all of her friends and how they want to continue to support her memory. To have a scholarship is an incredible way to keep Haley alive,” said Laura Nellum, Haley’s mother.
The garage sale goes until 5 p.m. Saturday.
The Haley Nellum Scholarship will be $500. The group plans to continue to raise money for the scholarship every year.
Family and friends are also planning an inaugural 2.1 mile walk/run in honor of Nellum and to increase awareness of drinking and driving. The walk/run is Saturday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Bishop Dwenger Track. Donations will also benefit the Haley Nellum Scholarship.
