PRINCETON, Ind. (AP) — Southwestern Indiana prosecutors have charged a Louisiana man with murder after autopsy evidence contradicted an eyewitness account in a man’s death.

A Gibson County judge found probable cause Monday to charge 53-year-old Claude Arender with murder in Friday’s death of 21-year-old Raheim Bright of Vincennes. The Choushatta, Louisiana, man remains jailed without bond and also faces an original voluntary manslaughter charge.

Authorities say Arender fatally shot Bright during a fight outside a Princeton home.

Prosecutor Robert Krieg tells the Evansville Courier & Press Arender’s son initially told police the gun went off when Arender struck Bright in the head with it several times.

But an autopsy concluded that Bright died from a single gunshot to the rear of his head and the cause of death was homicide.
