FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The 17th annual BBQ RibFest wrapped up at Headwaters Park Sunday night and organizers said early figures show attendance was up this year.
Nine vendors from across the country cooked up more than 20 tons of barbecue during the four-day fest. Jack on the Bone won critics’ choice for best ribs and people’s choice was Big Boned BBQ. For brisket, critics’ choice was Texas Pit.
On Friday, NewsChannel 15 talked to Red Rok. It’s the Fort Wayne restaurant’s first year at RibFest. We caught up with the owner again Sunday and he said RibFest was a great experience.
“We came down here with the intent of getting our name out a little bit more. Our restaurant’s been open about a year now and we figured what better way to get our name out than to come down to wherever anybody else wants barbecue. So, we set up and we got our name out and met a lot of great people who didn’t know we were in Fort Wayne. I think it was a true success being down here,” Chris Wilson, Red Rok’s owner, said.
Wilson sold 140 slabs of ribs in just 45 minutes on Saturday.
