Charity drive benefits Red Cross, children’s center

Red Cross and Blue Knights Indiana 2 team up for fundraiser.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Ride for Red and Blue Knights Indiana 2 Charity Ride will collect blood and raise money for the American Red Cross and Dr. Bill Lewis Center for Children.

The Red Cross will be setting up stations for people that want to donate blood. Officials say that the summer is when blood is needed the most. Patients around the country need an average of 44,000 units of red blood cells, according to the Red Cross.

During blood donations, the Blue Knights Indiana 2, a non-profit organization for active and retired law enforcement officers, is hosting a motorcycle ride. The ride will benefit the Dr. Bill Lewis Center that provides a safe place for abused children in the Fort Wayne area.

The motorcyclists will go more than 60 miles with police escorts. There will be door prizes, silent auction and food. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and leaves at 11 a.m.

The fundraiser is from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday, June 29 at Summit City Chevrolet.
