INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One person was taken into custody Wednesday night after a jail wagon was taken from a church parking lot near a Marion County deputy’s home.
Lieutenant Chris Bailey with IMPD says a Marion County Sheriff deputy’s home was burglarized some time Wednesday night. A jail wagon was stolen from the church parking lot in the 900 block of Wallace as a result.
Lt. Bailey said the suspect jimmied his way into the van. The keys were left inside.
Someone called IMPD and said an individual was driving the wagon that didn’t appear to be authorized to drive the vehicle.
IMPD responded to the 600 block of Wallace Avenue around 9:15 p.m. and apprehended the suspect. They also recovered the wagon.
The suspect drove just a few blocks before being arrested. When the suspect was arrested he was intoxicated.
Lt. Bailey says there were not any prisoners inside the van at the time of the theft.
The suspect’s name has not been released, but he was arrested on preliminary charges of theft, resisting police and public intoxication.
