FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Crews were called out to a fire around 9:20 a.m. near the intersection of Bear Paw Drive and Miahqueah Court, which is off of Maysville Road on the city’s northeast side.

According to FWFD Public Information Officer Stacey Fleming, there were three people home when the fire started. They all got out uninjured.

Firefighters initially went into the home to fight the fire but had to retreat due to a partial roof collapse. They left the home and attacked the fire from outside. Firefighters had the fire under control and tried to go back in at one point but the situation was still unstable.

With the high temperatures on Wednesday, firefighters rotated in order to stay safe.

The fire was under control just after 10 a.m. but crews remained on the scene in order to investigate and overhaul the property

The entire home was heavily damaged by fire, smoke and water.
