Police say Evansville motorcycle chase topped 135 mph

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Indiana State Police say a motorcyclist was arrested after leading a trooper on a chase with speeds topping 135 mph in Evansville.

Sgt. Philip Hensley says the trooper spotted the motorcycle going 98 mph Monday evening on Indiana 57 near the Evansville Regional Airport. The motorcyclist fled when the trooper tried to stop him and drove into a residential area on the city’s north side.

Hensley says the trooper broke off the chase after the motorcyclist drove through several yards. A license plate check found the motorcycle was owned by a 20-year-old man who lived a few blocks away.

Police officers arrested the man at his home on charges that included resisting arrest and reckless driving.
