FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Two Fort Wayne men are facing charges after police said they caught them while they were burglarizing a home. Police were called to that home in the early morning hours of June 11 when a neighbor reported seeing two men trying to get into the house. The neighbor said he knew the owner of that home was out of town.
When officers got there they saw one man walking from the detached garage toward a privacy fence that connected to the house. Police said the suspect, later identified at Shamar Shelton, 30, initially complied when told to stop, but then ran toward the backyard of another home. He slipped on wet grass and hit the corner of the house when he fell. That’s when officers were able to take him into custody and discovered he was armed with a Cobra .380 caliber handgun that had a round in the chamber.
Shelton faces charges of Burglary, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Felon, and Resisting Law Enforcement.
Police arrested a second suspect, Brandon Kyles, after finding him inside the home.
