FORT WAYNE, Ind – IPFW’s Kristian Gayday (Fort Wayne, Ind./Elmhurst) was named a 2014 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Mideast Region honoree.
Gayday earned second-team honors at shortstop behind the University of Iowa’s Jake Yacinich. Gayday led the Mastodons with a .358 batting average on the season, which ranked second in the Summit League. His 12 home runs were tops in the league while his 37 RBI were fifth. Gayday also ranked first in the Summit League in on base percentage (.472), slugging percentage (.653), total bases (113) and walks (32). The four-year starter ended the season second in the Summit League with 44 runs, fourth with 13 doubles and fifth with 62 hits
The senior closed out his career as one the best hitters in IPFW history, ranking among the top-five in nine offensive categories. He is the program’s all-time leader in games played (201), games started (192), and at bats (667). His 266 total bases are third while he ranks tied for third with 31 career doubles. Gayday also wrapped up his career fourth with 183 hits, 104 RBI, and 84 walks, while also sitting fifth with 15 home runs and sixth with 103 runs.
The Mastodons earned their best Summit League finish ever and advanced to the Summit League tournament for the first time in program history.
