BASE: Dwenger’s season ends at semi-state

PLYMOUTH, Ind. (WANE) – It became clear early on Saturday afternoon that Bishop Dwenger had its hands full Saturday with Andrean, the state’s top ranked team in 3A.  The 59ers scored six runs in the first, on their way to an 18-2 win, eliminating the Saints from the 3A state tournament.

Andrean strung together several hits in the first to take the lead.  The Saints caught a small break early on, when they picked off an Andrean baserunner trying to steal second.  However, Chase Dawson would soon knock in Donovan Chandler for the first of six runs in the opening frame.

Dwenger would put up a run of its own in when Noah Freimuth would score Justin Wagoner.  The Saints had a great opportunity to reduce their deficit when, what would have been the final out, was overturned due to catcher interference.  Soon after, Zach Norton would strikeout with the bases loaded to end the first inning.

The 59ers would score three more in the second, while the Saints doubled their total to two in the third.

The Saints season ended with a 19-12 record.  They’re the same team that was picked at the start of the season to finish sixth in the SAC.

Andrean, who improved to 30-5, will face Gibson Southern in the 3A state championship game next week.
