FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Motorists driving along Coliseum Boulevard or Coldwater Road by Glenbrook Square Mall have been popping into Mike’s Carwash for decades to get their rides cleaned up. After Friday, they’ll no longer be able to do so.
Mike’s Carwash announced Friday morning that its Glenbrook location will close as of 9 p.m. after more than 40 years.
General Growth Properties, which manages the mall has confirmed that a Jared – The Galleria of Jewelry will open a store in the spot currently occupied by Mike’s. It’s not known yet when Jared is scheduled to open.
Because the car wash is located on leased property, management decided in 2013 not to renew the lease. None of the other Mike’s locations in Fort Wayne are located on leased property.
“We have a lot of history at Glenbrook, and we have loved operating there,” said Mike’s CEO Bill Dahm. “With five other convenient locations in Fort Wayne, we are confident our customers will be well served by Mike’s. We will also continue looking for new locations in the Fort Wayne area.”
Mikes will still operate five other locations in Fort Wayne:
- 1509 S. Calhoun
- 4020 E. State Blvd.
- 6313 Lima Road
- 6215 W. Jefferson Blvd.
- 10320 Maysville Road
Jared, The Galleria of Jewelry, will be opening a $1.1 million, 6,057 square-foot store at the site, according to the News Sentinel. NewsChannel 15 is working to find out what the timeline for Jared would be.
