FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Allen County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy Wednesday that confirmed a man found dead inside a Fort Wayne home Tuesday evening had been shot to death. The victim has been identified as Nicholas Xavier Palacio, 29, of Fort Wayne. His death has been ruled a homicide, the sixth in Allen County and Fort Wayne in 2014.
Police were called just after 9 p.m. to the 4200 block of Chippendale Court which is located southeast of the intersection of Paulding and Wayne Trace after dispatchers received 911 calls about gunshots in the area.
When officers arrived they found Palacio inside a home at 4219 Chippendale Court. He appeared to have been shot several times, according to city police spokesperson Officer Jason Anthony.
Anthony said paramedics pronounced Palacio dead at the scene.
Anthony said investigators believe the shooting happened inside the home.
Witnesses told police a white vehicle was seen leaving the area shortly after the gunshots were heard. Police didn’t have a specific description of the vehicle or know if it had any involvement with the incident.
Sources close to the investigation said one person was either inside the home or near the home when Palacio was killed. The person apparently left the area on foot, but sources said they were waiting for the individual to return so he could speak to detectives.
Detectives interviewed neighbors and other potential witnesses. Crime scene technicians gathered and processed evidence inside the home.
Police have no suspect information or any details about a possible motive in the shooting.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and Allen County Coroner’s Office.
