Pedestrian dies after Wednesday accident

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WANE)  A pedestrian that was hit by a car north of Warsaw on Wednesday morning has died.

22-year-old Michael C. Keener of Warsaw was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital in critical condition after being hit by a car in the early morning hours. According to the Allen County Coroner, he died that afternoon.

According to the release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Keener of was hit just before 5:30 a.m. Driver Darrell E. Young, 46, of Warsaw, told police that he was driving south on County Road 150 West at that time.

Young said he didn’t see Keener, who seemed to be crossing the road, until the last minute due to the dark clothing Keener was wearing. Young tried to swerve out of the way but still hit Keener and continued off the road into a utility pole.

Keener was found lying in the roadway with severe injuries when authorities arrived. Young was not injured.

The Kosciusko County F.A.C.T./crash investigation team was assisted at the scene by Warsaw Police Department, Leesburg/Plain Township Fire Department, and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
