Fire destroys two barns near Woodburn

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Fire ripped through two barns south of Woodburn early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters received several 911 calls about a fire at 3536 Becker Road around 1:15 a.m.

Fire officials said the first arriving crews found a large barn fully engulfed in flames. A smaller barn to the west of the larger structure was also on fire.

Crews had the heaviest flames out in about 30 minutes. Investigators said an easterly wind and the wood frame helped fuel the flames.

The property owners were not home when the fire started.

The barn contained farm equipment and other machinery items.

The barn did have electricity, but investigators have not determined what started the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

The Woodburn Fire Department was assisted by tankers from New Haven Adams Township Fire Department, Saint Joseph Township Fire Rescue, and Northeast Fire.
