Tech’s Kalusa Signs To Play In Frontier League

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Tech center fielder and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Honorable Mention All-American, Justin Kalusa, will get the chance to live his dream as the senior has signed to play for the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League.
Kalusa, a native of Elgin, Illinois, who became the 26th honorable mention All-American in Warrior baseball history, is the fifth player to sign a professional contract under Head Coach Kip McWillaims. He started in all 58 of Indiana Tech’s contests in 2014, leading the team in most offensive categories. He hit .400 with 88 hits, 13 doubles, six triples and six home runs. His 88 hits and 62 runs scored both broke Indiana Tech single-season records and were the 10th and 17th best totals in the NAIA. He drove in 50 runs and collected 131 total bases in 2014 with a .595 slugging percentage and a .470 on-base percentage. He also set a single-season mark with 30 stolen bases.
On the mound in 2014, Kalusa finished the season 2-2 with a 2.17 ERA in 29 innings. His ERA ties Josh Miller’s 2010 mark for the lowest single-season earned run average and his .217 batting average against ranks second all-time.
In just two seasons, Kalusa has amassed 153 hits, 10 triples and 43 stolen bases, all Indiana Tech career records. He is also second in career ERA (2.03) and third on the opponent batting average against at .205.
The Warriors standout was also named 2014 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Year as well as a first-team WHAC All-Conference selection.
“Justin is one of the all-time great players at Indiana Tech,” McWilliams stated. “He’s a guy that gives 110% on every play and has the five tools to succeed at the next level. We thought an organization would take a chance on him, but I’m thrilled that he has caught on somewhere and I know his skills will take him where he wants to be. He’s an older college graduate, but now he’s a rookie and one of the youngest guys on the team. I’m excited to see where his career goes.”
