MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a Muncie man to nine years in prison for badly injuring his infant son.

Twenty-two-year-old Steven Edward Jones told a Delaware County judge on Monday he made a mistake that could have cost his son’s life.

The Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/1s2qocU ) the child suffered skull and rib fractures, brain bleeding, facial bruising and a mouth injury in October 2012. Officials say medical attention wasn’t sought until the boy’s mother returned home and saw he was vomiting blood.

Jones pleaded guilty to a felony charge of child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury.

Defense attorney Jacob Dunnuck says the child is now doing well.
