Program developed to make homes safer for seniors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Many seniors want to stay at home as they get older. However, there can be some concerns about safety.

Home Instead Senior Care has developed a special program for seniors and their family members.

Jim Sullivan with Home Instead Senior Care joined NewsChannel 15’s Gina Glaros on First News Saturday to discuss its newest program, Making Home Safer for Seniors.

According to research conducted by the Home Instead Senior Care network,seniors report more than one-quarter of their trips to the hospital or emergency room are caused by falls or other household accidents.

The program offcers a free home safety checklist for area seniors and their families that goes room-by-room.
