FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A Summit City staple is turning the big 100. Fort Wayne’s Famous Coney Island has been serving up delicious dogs for a century.
They’ve celebrated all day Saturday at Deer Park Irish Pub. Fans of Coney Island couldn’t say enough about their favorite hot dog joint.
“America loves hot dogs and America loves craft beer. It’s a natural marriage for the two to come together,” said Tony Henry, owner of Deer Park Irish Pub.
“Well, I’ve been eating Coney since I was 6 years old, 5 years old, excuse me, and I’m 73 now so you do the math,” said Coney Island fan, Jack Orr.
“It’s pretty amazing when you think of small businesses and how hard it is for them to survive and that Coney Island has been around as long as it has and it’s just as good as it ever was,” said Coney Island fan, Andrea Davis.
It wasn’t just all fun and games, though. 100 contestants gave it their all in the hot dog eating contest. The winner of Saturday’s competition is now heading to the Three Rivers contest next month.
