Off-duty Pierceton police officer injured in dog attack

PIERCETON, Ind. (WANE) – An off-duty Pierceton police officer was hospitalized Thursday night after being attacked by a dog.

Troopers from the Bremen Post of the Indiana State Police said they were called to help escort the injured officer to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

According to the post, the officer was bitten by the dog during the attack.

Several state troopers and Fort Wayne police officers assisted with escorting the ambulance to the hospital once it reached the Fort Wayne area.

NewsChannel 15 learned the injured man is Officer Jim Bumbaugh.

Bumbaugh was listed in fair condition at the hospital early Friday morning.

He’s been with the Pierceton Police Department since 2003, according to online news archives. The Pierceton website also lists Bumbaugh as a member of the Town Council.

It’s unknown where Bumbaugh was bit by the dog or the circumstances that led to the attack.
