FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man killed after being hit on E. Pontiac Street on Thursday night has been identified. The Allen County Coroner said 34-year-old Jabaar R. Wilcox died of blunt force trauma.

The report indicates that Wilcox was lying in the roadway when he was hit by a passing car just before 11 p.m. on Thursday.

The collision happened on Pontiac Street between Fruehauf Drive and Adams Street.

City police spokesperson Officer Chris Felton said Wilcox was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the car told police he did anyone as he was driving west, away from a nearby traffic circle.

Felton said the area where the collision occurred was dark. He did not have information on the type of clothing the victim was wearing.

Investigators said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, but tests on the victim had not been completed at the time.

Police did not provide information on where the victim was walking in the street. The 2800 block of East Pontiac has a sidewalk on one side.

The crash is under investigation.
