Wrestling match ends with shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A LaPorte man is facing charges after police say a friendly wrestling match turned into a shooting at Eden Green Apartments on May 22.

According to Investigators, victim Deshawn Smith showed up at Eden Green the night of May 22nd to drink and hang out with friends. Smith told police that he and Bryan Flowers started to play wrestle at some point.

Smith body slammed Flowers, which Flowers took offense to. Flowers got a gun from a friend and shot Smith twice in the chest.

When police arrived on the scene, they were able to stop and arrest Flowers. According to the Affidavit for Probable Cause, Flowers was too drunk to be interviewed.

When police interviewed Flowers at the LaPorte County jail at a later date, he allegedly admitted to police that he shot Smith twice in the chest.

Flowers has previously been convicted of armed robbery in 2004 and aggravated robbery in 2001. Both of these crimes were committed in Illinois.

Flowers is facing aggravated battery and unlawful possession of a firearm charges for the May 22 shooting.
