Two airlifted to hospital after head-on crash

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — A man was found lying in the road and a woman was trapped in her truck after a head-on crash around 6 p.m. Tuesday evening.

When police arrived on the scene at County Road 350 South, just south of Warsaw, the road was littered with debris. Among the debris was John J Etter, 60, lying in the road way.

The Kosciusko Fatal Alcohol Crash Team said Etter crossed the centerline of County Farm road, just south of County Road 350 South, and crashed into a truck full of people.

Police believe the driver of the truck, Gary L. Spangle attempted to swerve but could not avoid Etter’s Ford before crashing.

Etter was airlifted from the scene and taken to a hospital in Fort Wayne in serious condition with hip and chest injuries.

The passenger of the truck, 51- year- old Maxine J. Spangle, was trapped. She was airlifted to a hospital in serious condition with leg injuries.

The other three people inside the truck were sent a hospital in Warsaw, in stable condition. The truck’s driver, Spangle, 43, received minor injuries to his leg. Two teenagers, one with a shoulder injury the other with head injuries, went to the hospital in stable condition.

Police are still investigating the crash pending legal blood test results.
