FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man crashed his car into a railroad crossing gate on Taylor Street Wednesday night.
Shortly after 11 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the railroad crossing in the 2400 block of Taylor Street.
Officers on scene said the man might have suffered from a medical condition, causing him to crash.
He was treated by paramedics and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Officers didn’t elaborate on the medical condition. The name of the driver has not been released.
A handicap placard was hanging from the vehicle’s rearview mirror.
The crash badly damaged the railroad crossing gate for eastbound traffic. The pole was still standing and lights were attached, but the gate was bent backwards and several pieces were knocked loose.
The gate’s bell was thrown about forty feet.
Norfolk Southern was called to assess damage and make repairs.
It’s unclear if Taylor Street would have to be closed while repairs were made.
The crash is under investigation.
